Yunnan Normal University 2016 MA/PhD Program Admission Guide for Applicants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan

Yunnan Normal University (henceforth YNNU), the former Teachers’ College of National Southwest Associated University which was the merger of Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University after the Anti-Japanese War breakout in 1938, is a key university co-constructed by the Ministry of Education and the Yunnan Provincial Government. As a single key normal university of Yunnan Province, YNNU is also one of the one hundred universities funded by the National Key Project for the Quality Enhancement of the Higher Institutions in Central and West China. With a long history and a great tradition, it is rated as one of Top 50 model universities in the teaching-quality and employment by the Ministry of Education of China.

YNNU, covering a total area of 3300 mu (about five hundred acres), has 28 schools, 2 independent colleges, a State Testing Center, an Innovative Teaching Team of the Ministry of Education, 4 Key Teaching Labs and Engineering Research Centers of the Ministry of Education,  a Sino-Laos Joint Lab for Recyclable Energy Resources, 2 State Teaching Teams , the Strait Exchange Base, Chinese Language and Culture Educational Base of Overseas Chinese Affairs in the State Council, Teachers’ Training Base on the Popularization of Chinese for the Neighboring Countries, Yunnan College of Chinese Language and Culture, and Yunnan College of Discipline Inspection and Supervision. With the rapid enhancement of scientific research, its research funds are over 100 million Yuan (RMB) annually.

YNNU has 2 post-doctoral research stations in the first-level discipline, one doctoral program in the first-level discipline, 7 doctoral programs in the second-level discipline, 26 master’s programs in the first-level discipline, 130 master’s programs in the second-level discipline, and 13 professional master’s programs such as Med, MBA, MPA , MPACC, JM etc.

I. Qualifications

i. Identification

a. Applicants from Hong Kong and Macao should hold a valid Hong Kong or Macao Permanent Resident Identity Card and Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents

b. Applicants from Taiwan should hold Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents.

ii. Applicants for Master’s degree programs should acquire Bachelor’s degree (including the same level of Bachelor’s degree in Mainland). Applicants for Doctoral degree programs should acquire Master’s degree (including the same level of Master’s degree in Mainland). iii. Applicants need to have a sound physical and mental health.

iv. Recommendation letters from two professors or associate professors in the relevant research field are required.

IV. Registration

Registration period: from November 20th to December 19th 2015, 9:00—12:00

    The MA/PhD program admission pilot rules for applicants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan include two parts: online registration and the on-site confirmation. All applicants are required to register on the internet, confirm the information given through the internet and pay the tuition in the application center.

    National College Students’ Information Consultation and Employment Guiding Center is authorized to be in charge of the online registration service.

a. Requirements for online registration

i. Applicants need to enter the web of MA/PhD program admission for applicants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, (website: http://www.gatzs.com.cn/), skim through the rules for admission and upload the e-photos based on the online public announcements issued by the Ministry of Education, application centers and YNNU. During the application period, applicants can revise the online information. No overdue registrations are admitted.

ii. Applicants’ online information as well as the authentic documents is required. Applicants will bear the consequences for wrong and false information.

iii. Only one program of the admission department (school) can be admitted.

b. Requirements for the spot confirmation

i. Applicants are required to go to the application center to confirm the registration information, according to the rules of application centers. No overdue registrations are admitted.

ii. The following documents should be provided for the verification of the staff in the application center.

● Online registration number

● ID card

● Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree certificate (undergraduates are allowed to submit the certificate before the enrollment) or equivalent qualification diploma.

iii. Applicants are required to have a careful check and confirmation of their information. No revision will be allowed after the confirmation. Applicants will bear the consequences for their wrong information.

iv. Tuition will be paid based on the rules of admission.

v. Confirmation Sheet of Applicants’ Registration Information should be printed and kept by application centers after applicants sign their names.

vi. Duplicates of relevant documents required in registration are submitted.

Notes: The registration rules should be carefully verified by applicants otherwise they will bear the consequences of admission refusal for failing to meet the registration rules.

V.Preliminary Examination

i. Location

ii. Time: April 9th – 10th, 2016, from 9:00-12:00 and 14:30-17:30 (Beijing Time)

    The results of preliminary examination will be published on the website of YNNU Admission Office

VI. Reexamination and physical examination

For the applicants having succeeded in the preliminary examination, they need to take the reexamination early in May, and the reexamined location is YNNU; for more details, please visit the website of Department of Admission and Employment.

    Applicants’ physical examination should be implemented in accordance with The Guide on Physical Examination in the Admission of General Higher Institutions (Edu 2003, 3), The Notice on the Cancelation of Hepatitis B Check in College Students’ Physical Examination by the General Office of the Ministry of Education and that of the Ministry of Health (Edu 2010, 2), and on the reality of enrollment programs

VII. Enrollment

The acceptance is based on a comprehensive evaluation of the documents provided by applicants, the results of preliminary examination and reexamination, supervisors’ acknowledgements and physical examination. The acceptance notification will be received in June.

Applicants being informed of acceptance must register in person with the Enrollment Department early in September 2016 (for the prescribed time, see Admission Notice). Upon registration, students are required to take a physical reexamination, and those who fail in the physical reexamination in accordance with the national relevant healthy criteria will be cancelled their admission qualifications. Students who cannot register within the prescribed period must ask for leave. Those who fail to do so will also be cancelled their admission qualifications.

VIII. Tuition

According to the documents: Edu 200522  and  Edu2005333 by the Ministry of Education, National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the State Council, tuition fees for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will be charged on the same standards as the students enrolled in Mainland China.

IX. Scholarships

Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan can apply for scholarships and bursaries in accordance with the national relevant regulations. Besides that, students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are entitled to Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Students Scholarship granted by the Ministry of Education and Yunnan Normal University respectively. The award of the latter type of scholarship is from¥800 to ¥5000 (RMB).

X. Duration

Master’s degree program: 3 years (5 years at most including schooling suspension) Doctoral degree program: 4 years (6 years at most including schooling suspension) Graduation: Obtain all the credits of compulsory subjects, finish the Master’s or Doctoral degree thesis, pass the thesis oral defense, and get certificate of Doctoral degree or Master’s degree.

XI. Additional Considerations

i. Applicants for art program need to consult us in advance. If meeting the registration rules, they can confirm the information and attend the examination in the following application centers (Beijing, Guanzhou, Hong Kong and Macao) with other non-art program applicants.
