Open-Admission Guide for Hong Kong High School Graduates, 2014, YNNU

Yunnan Normal University (henceforth YNNU) traces its founding back to the former Teachers College of the National Southwest Associated University which was established in 1938 by merging Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University in the backdrop of the Anti-Japanese War, when these universities had to move south to Kunming. Now YNNU is co-supported by the Ministry of Education and Yunnan Provincial Government. It is one of the 100 key universities of the Midwest University Fundamental Capacity Building Project. YNNU is the only key normal university under the Jurisdiction of Yunnan Provincial Government. It consists of 25 schools, 2 independent schools, and more than 40 research institutes. YNNU has 10 disciplines—literature, history, philosophy, law, education, management, science, technology, economics and arts, 86 undergraduate majors, 1 mobile post-doctoral station, 7 PhD program in second–class disciplines, 26 MA programs in first-class disciplines, 130 MA programs in second-class disciplines, ten of which are professional master’s programs like Laws and MBA. It is one of the first 24 leading universities in China that offer the Master’s Program for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. YNNU is a provincial key university in Yunnan Province with teacher education as its characteristic. It also features a balance between the Humanities and the Sciences, a solid foundation and coordinated development of disciplines.

3. Programs: The University is authorized to offer different levels of education, from undergraduate to PhD.

4. Type of Institution: Public higher institution, a key university under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province.

5. Program Duration:A bachelor’s degree requires 4-year full-time study on campus.

6. Graduation Requirements: Students who have finished and passed all the courses required by the curriculum or have earned the required number of credits will be granted a graduation diploma of Yunnan Normal University and a bachelor’ degree in accordance with the Regulations on Academic Degrees of the People’s Republic of China.

7.Overseas Chinese students and students from Hong Kong, Macau SAR and Taiwan may apply for exemption from the courses of military training and political theories, and their studies will be managed by Regulations on Administration of Students in Regular Higher Education Institutions and other relevant regulations issued by the Ministry of Education. They should return to where they come from after graduation./p>

C. Application

1. Application Requirements

Applicants need to hold a valid Hong Kong Permanent Resident Identity Card or a Non-Permanent Resident Identity Card and Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents, and take part in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination 2014.

2. How to apply

Applicants need to log onto the open admission website for Hong Kong high school graduates to pre-register from 25th January, 2014 to 20th March, 2014. Then you should go to China Education Exchange (HK) Centre in person during 15th March 2014 to 31st March 2014 to confirm your registration. The submission of application documents should include the following:

1) Printed application form

2) E-passport photo (JPG & 168×240 pixel & within 10 k)

3) Related ID (Hong Kong Permanent Resident Identity Card or a Non-Permanent Resident Identity Card and Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents)

4) Study document (certificates of prizes and awards, Principal’s Nominations Scheme Individual Application Form, etc.)

5) Application fee

If you can not go to China Education Exchange (HK) Centre in person for special reasons, you can entrust other people to submit your application documents and confirm your information with Your ID card(Hong Kong Permanent Resident Identity Card or a Non-Permanent Resident Identity Card and Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents), the entrustee’s ID card and a letter of proxy with your signature.

D. Admissions Principles:

Apart from conduction of the basic admission principles “under leadership of the university and supervision of the Admissions Office”, such principles as — serious implementation of national admissions policies, comprehensive assessment of moral, intellectual and physical education, “fair competition and talent scouting” and “merit-based enrollment” — have been fully carried out in practice. The specific admission rules can be listed as follows:

1. YNNU will admit students in accordance with applicants’ performance in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination, and refer to applicants’ learning experiences in middle school. It will stick to the admission plan that examined and approved by the Ministry of Education and the admission guide that published to the society.

2. the lowest admission criteria: apart from the applicants from the Principal’s Nominations Scheme and Art and Physical Education applicants, the lowest admission criteria for applicants participating in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination is “3, 3, 2, 2”, that is, Level 3 and above in Chinese Language and English Language, Level 2 and above in Mathematics and Liberal Studies.

The lowest admission criteria for applicants within the Principal’s Nominations Scheme is “3、2、3、2”. “2、2、1、1” for those who apply for Art and Physical Education.

3. All admitted students are privileged to choose their favorite majors and their personal preferences will be given full consideration.

4. The applicants for Art and Physical Education should take their personal expertise into discreet considerations. Male applicants for dance performance (major in Flight Attendants and Etiquette) should meet the stature acquirements 172cm-185cm, 162cm-173cm for female applicants. All applicants should have regular facial features and well-proportioned figures, have no obvious scar on the exposed body parts, under age 20(born after 1st January, 1994).

5. There is no specified requirement for foreign language background of the applicants, but English is supposed to be the medium of instruction upon admission.

6. There is no specified ratio of male to female students in all the majors.

E. Registration & Physical Examination:

1. The admitted Hong Kong students are required to come to Yunnan Normal University for registration before the deadline indicated on the Admission Notice of Yunnan Normal University.

2. The admitted students are required to take a physical examination within three months after registration. Those who fail to meet the health criteria for the programs they have chosen can confer with the university on the possibility of transfer to other undergraduate programs; for those who are confirmed upon examination to be ineligible for studying in the university due to health reasons, the university will treat the case according to relevant articles as specified in Regulations of Yunnan Normal University on the Records Management of Full-time Undergraduate Students.

F. Supplementary Provisions

1. This Admissions Guide is exclusively applied to the open admission of Hong Kong applicants in 2014.

2. Admissions Office of the Admissions & Employment Center, Yunnan Normal University, reserves the right for the final interpretation of this Admissions Guide.
